An Islamic human rights organization, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has called on affluent Nigerians to invest in the country’s education sector, following the donation of a major ICT facility by Dr. Awa Ibraheem.
Dr. Ibraheem, who serves as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Fountain University, recently donated a newly completed 600-seater Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Hub to the institution. The facility was officially unveiled on April 22, 2026, in Oshogbo, Osun State.
In a statement issued on Monday, April 27, 2026, MURIC commended the gesture, describing it as a significant contribution to the advancement of digital education in Nigeria. The group noted that the ICT hub would enhance learning capacity and improve access to technology-driven education for students.
“MURIC commends Dr. Awa Ibraheem for this philanthropic gesture. Although Nigerians already know the donor for his selflessness, kindness and unequalled generosity, the ICT hub in Fountain University stands out as a landmark project,” the statement read.
The organization urged other wealthy individuals to emulate Ibraheem’s example by supporting educational development, particularly in tertiary institutions facing infrastructure deficits.
MURIC also advised the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ramota Olayinka Karim, and other academic leaders nationwide to strengthen collaboration between academia and the wider community.

According to the group, fostering stronger “town and gown” relationships could attract more private sector funding into the education system.
The call comes amid growing concerns over inadequate infrastructure and funding challenges in Nigeria’s higher education sector, with stakeholders increasingly advocating private sector intervention to bridge critical gaps.
