The Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command has emerged second overall at the 15th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA 2026), clinching 90 gold medals in a closely contested tournament held in Asaba.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, commended officers for what he described as an outstanding performance at the national sporting event. He gave the commendation on Thursday during a reception at the Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, organised to welcome the sports contingent.
Fayoade described the second-place finish as a significant achievement, noting that the zone competed strongly against other commands across the country, including Force Headquarters, which clinched the overall top spot.
“The competition initially appeared to be an open task, raising concerns about adequate preparation. However, the team rose above the challenges and made the command proud,” he said. “You performed excellently and made us very proud. You are the real champions.”
Providing a breakdown of the medal tally, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Olubode Fakeye, disclosed that Zone 2 secured 90 gold medals, 79 silver medals and 77 bronze medals. He explained that although the zone recorded a strong overall medal haul, the final ranking was determined primarily by the number of gold medals won, placing Zone 2 second behind Force Headquarters, which won 103 gold medals — a difference of 13.
Fakeye praised the athletes’ determination despite stiff competition and credited the success to the leadership and support of the DIG, particularly in the timely payment of allowances and logistical coordination.
Fayoade noted that the performance reflected the long-standing tradition of the police in producing top athletes who have represented Nigeria at national and international competitions. He referenced previous police sporting events in Ibadan and Asaba that produced athletes who later excelled globally.
The DIG also expressed appreciation to former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for sustaining police sporting initiatives over the years, describing the organisation of large-scale competitions like BIPOGA as a demonstration of strong leadership and institutional commitment.
He further thanked the Commissioners of Police in Lagos and Ogun states, alongside other senior officers, for their logistical and financial support, which ensured the safe transportation and welfare of the athletes.

Looking ahead, Fayoade urged the athletes and management team to commence early preparations for the next edition of the biennial games scheduled for 2028, emphasising that strategic planning would position the zone to clinch the overall title.
He congratulated the team for their resilience and dedication, expressing confidence that Zone 2 could secure first place at the next BIPOGA with sustained effort and preparation.
