The Federal Government of Nigeria has reiterated its unwavering commitment to religious freedom, peace, and inclusivity following a recent statement by the United States on global religious liberty.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerian government acknowledged the U.S. position while reaffirming its dedication to upholding religious tolerance and combating violent extremism.
“We remain committed in our resolve to tackle the violent extremism that is fueled by special interests who have helped drive such decay and division in countries across the intersecting West African and Sahel regions,” the statement read.
The ministry expressed sympathy for all victims of violent extremism and commended Nigeria’s armed forces for their sacrifices in defending the nation. It emphasized that the Federal Government would continue to protect all citizens regardless of their race, creed, or religion.
“Like America, Nigeria has no option but to celebrate the diversity that is our greatest strength. Nigeria is a God-fearing country where we respect faith, tolerance, diversity and inclusion, in concurrence with the rules-based international order,” the statement added.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s strategic partnership with the United States, the ministry noted that both nations share values of democracy, peace, and mutual respect.

“The U.S. has been and we trust will always remain a close ally, because the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will maintain our steadfast commitment to all partners who believe in genuine peace, stability, freedom, and democracy,” the statement concluded.
The response comes amid global attention to religious freedom and interfaith relations, with Nigeria positioning itself as a nation committed to unity in diversity and respect for human rights.
