The Senate has debunked reports alleging a clash between the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, during a recent executive session on whether to proceed on annual recess.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, the upper chamber described the reports as completely false and misleading.
“The reports lack any iota of truth and misrepresent the age-long parliamentary tradition where members, irrespective of party affiliations, engage in robust debates and interpellations to examine policies, motions, and bills,” the statement read.

Adaramodu emphasized that spirited deliberations, both in the chamber and committee rooms, are routine in legislative settings and should not be misinterpreted as personal conflicts or leadership divisions.
“The Nigerian Senate, like all functional parliaments worldwide, thrives on open debate in the interest of over 230 million Nigerians. This should not be misconstrued as cracks within our leadership,” he added.
