Troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Enugu State, have uncovered a significant arms cache in a covert operation targeting suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The breakthrough, achieved under Operation EASTERN SANITY II, followed a precision intelligence-led raid conducted on June 9, 2026, in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area.
According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 82 Division, the operation was based on credible intelligence obtained from previously arrested suspects linked to IPOB/ESN activities.
During the raid, troops uncovered a clandestine arms depot concealed within a zinc structure disguised as a piggery. A detailed search of the site led to the recovery of a large cache of weapons and ammunition.
Items recovered include General Purpose Machine Guns, an RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, a tear gas gun with cartridges, multiple AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
The military confirmed that all recovered weapons, along with arrested suspects, have been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The statement emphasized that the operation highlights the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in tackling security threats in the South-East region.
“This intelligence-driven operation underscores proactive measures to counter threats to national unity and public safety, while reinforcing Operation UDO KA’s commitment to sustained offensive actions against criminal and terrorist networks,” the statement read.

Authorities also called on members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the region.
