Abuja, Nigeria — The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has debunked a viral video circulating on social media that falsely portrays the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, and in some instances misrepresents the individual featured as the Chief of Army Staff.
In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the military described the video as “false, misleading, and entirely fabricated,” stressing that it does not reflect any official communication or engagement involving the Armed Forces’ leadership.
According to the DHQ, the video is a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and create confusion about the activities and leadership of Nigeria’s military.
“The content bears clear signs of digital manipulation, premised on Artificial Intelligence, and should not be relied upon in any way,” the statement said.
The Defence Headquarters expressed concern over the growing trend of using advanced digital tools to fabricate content involving senior military officers, warning that such actions could erode public trust and undermine national security efforts.
It urged members of the public to disregard the video entirely, noting that it did not originate from any official military source.
The DHQ also called on social media influencers, bloggers, and content creators to exercise restraint and responsibility by avoiding the spread of unverified military-related information.
“The quest for online visibility must not come at the expense of truth, national security, and responsible journalism,” the statement added.

Media practitioners and the general public were advised to verify all military-related information through official Defence Headquarters communication channels before dissemination.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Armed Forces of Nigeria stated that it remains focused on its constitutional mandate to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty, peace, and security.
