Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have successfully foiled multiple kidnapping attempts, rescued several victims, and launched manhunts for fleeing criminals in coordinated operations across Plateau and Kaduna States within the last 48 hours.
The military said the operations underscore its commitment to safeguarding lives and securing highways within its Joint Operations Area.
In a statement signed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE reaffirmed its resolve to rid communities and highways of criminal elements.
In Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, troops of Sector 6 deployed to Sopp District responded to reports of suspected kidnappers who had blocked the Hawan Kibo–Rafin Sayin highway around 12:30 a.m. on June 5, 2026. On arrival, troops discovered an ash-coloured Honda vehicle with registration number APP-93CF abandoned on the road.
A search-and-rescue operation conducted in nearby bushes led to the successful rescue of six kidnapped passengers. The victims disclosed they had boarded the vehicle from Lafiya in Nasarawa State en route to Jos before being intercepted. While the passengers were rescued unharmed, the driver remains missing, with troops continuing efforts to locate him.
In a related operation, troops of Sector 5 in Bokkos Local Government Area thwarted another kidnapping attempt following a distress call from Faggem Village on the same day. The swift military response forced the assailants to flee into surrounding forests, abandoning their victims.
The troops rescued a pastor and his wife, who sustained injuries during the attack. The victims were evacuated to a medical facility in Bokkos for treatment, while security forces intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, in Kaduna State, troops of Sector 7 stationed at Ungwan Gora in Sanga Local Government Area responded to reports of suspected terrorists blocking the highway between Rafi Tagwai and Angwan Dariya in the early hours of June 6, 2026.
On arrival, it was confirmed that passengers in a commercial vehicle had been abducted. Troops recovered eight empty cases of 7.62mm special ammunition at the scene and immediately pursued the attackers into nearby forests.

The operation led to the rescue of two injured passengers, who were promptly taken to a hospital in Fadan Karshi District for medical attention. Efforts are ongoing to rescue other kidnapped victims.
The military urged citizens to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
