The Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded significant successes in ongoing security operations across Kaduna State, including the neutralisation of suspected bandits, recovery of rustled livestock, arrests, and restoration of public order in troubled communities.
The operations, conducted between June 20 and June 21, were part of sustained efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities in the North West region.
On June 20, troops acting on credible intelligence swiftly responded to cattle rustling activities in a Kaduna community. During the operation, soldiers engaged fleeing criminals in a firefight, neutralising two suspected bandits. The troops also recovered weapons, ammunition, and rustled livestock, effectively foiling the criminal operation. However, one civilian was reportedly killed by the bandits during the incident.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops on night patrol intercepted two suspected bandits. A search conducted on the suspects uncovered incriminating digital materials linking them to terrorist and bandit networks. The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.
Similarly, on June 21, troops conducting a fighting patrol encountered armed criminals who retreated under pressure into nearby bush areas. The troops maintained pursuit and successfully apprehended two suspected bandit informants. Items recovered from the suspects included motorcycles and communication devices containing evidence of criminal activities. Investigations are ongoing.
In another development, troops responded to a civil disturbance in Mararraba community following the mob killing of a female suspect accused of child trafficking. The situation escalated as the mob attempted to attack public infrastructure and block a major highway. Security forces intervened promptly, dispersing the crowd, securing critical facilities, and restoring normalcy, ensuring free movement of commuters.
