The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, emphasized the importance of national security and state police, saying that it is a call for a fair and just system that is blind to wealth, power, and status.
He stressed that this event aimed to address the challenges of insecurity and create a safer future for all Nigerians.
Senator Akpabio who was represented by his deputy, Senator Barau I. Jibrin CON, during a dialogue organized by the House of Representatives on Monday in Abuja said that the national dialogue highlighted the government’s commitment to reforming the security architecture.
The discussion focused on the concept of state police, acknowledging the need for a robust and transparent security system that upholds the fundamental rights of every Nigerian.
Drawing inspiration from the United States, the president of the Senate said the dialogue aimed to adapt successful policing models to Nigeria’s unique context. “The importance of collaboration between state and federal police forces was emphasized to combat crime effectively.
“The dialogue stressed the importance of preventing the misuse of state police power for political gain or oppression. It called for a fair and just system that is blind to wealth, power, and status. Participants were urged to work together towards a common goal of a secure and united Nigeria, free from the current threats of insecurity.”
