LAGOS, Nigeria — The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has lauded Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for welfare-focused initiatives that are enhancing staff morale and improving productivity across the state’s public service.
Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, gave the commendation on Wednesday at the board’s 2026 Health Week programme held at the LASUBEB Multipurpose Hall, noting that the governor’s commitment to workers’ wellbeing is yielding tangible results.

Shittu said the administration places a premium on both productivity and the health of its workforce, stressing that a healthy workforce is essential for efficient service delivery.
“Mr Governor cares deeply about our staff. He values not only productivity but also their welfare, ensuring they remain healthy enough to deliver efficient public service at all times,” he said.
The Health Week, themed “Listening to Your Body: Recognising Early Warning Signs,” featured medical consultations, health education sessions and diagnostic tests aimed at detecting potential health issues early.
According to Shittu, the initiative provides workers with the opportunity to assess their health status, receive professional medical advice and take necessary follow-up actions based on test outcomes.
He urged staff members to take their health results seriously, adhere to medical guidance and seek further assistance where required, assuring them of LASUBEB’s continued support for their wellbeing.
Also speaking, the Director of Secretariat and Welfare Services in Lagos State, Ms Fumilayo Jukosin, highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare in maintaining a productive workforce.
She said comprehensive screenings conducted during the programme included checks for prostate and breast cancer, as well as mammograms, aimed at encouraging early diagnosis and treatment.
“Your body constantly communicates with you, and early detection saves lives. Staff should recognise unusual changes promptly and seek medical attention before minor issues become serious,” Jukosin said.
She warned against indiscriminate consumption of local herbal mixtures, popularly known as “agbo,” noting that self-medication could delay proper diagnosis and worsen underlying health conditions.
Participants at the event described the initiative as impactful and timely.
A beneficiary, Mr John Oladoye, said the screening helped him better understand his health status and reduced anxiety, enabling him to seek timely medical attention.
“This exercise has given us knowledge, removed fear and encouraged us to visit hospitals whenever we notice changes. We appreciate the government for prioritising our health,” he said.
Another participant, Mrs Folasade Adegeye, noted that the programme reinforced the importance of routine health checks and early detection of illnesses.
