Lagos, Nigeria — The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, has dismantled a major drug trafficking syndicate, recovering 425 bags of substances suspected to be “Canadian Loud” in a coordinated operation in the Mende area of Maryland, Lagos.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the zone, Olohundare Jimoh, disclosed the development while briefing journalists on the success recorded by operatives of the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID).
According to the AIG, the breakthrough followed credible intelligence provided by a concerned citizen, which pointed to ongoing drug trafficking activities linked to a 41-year-old suspected kingpin. Detectives subsequently placed the suspect under surveillance for several months before apprehending him on May 19.
Jimoh explained that the suspect later led investigators to a three-bedroom apartment located at No. 10 Olori Adekemi Ajibola Street, Arowojobe Estate, Mende, Maryland, which was allegedly being used as a warehouse for storing illicit drugs.
“A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of 425 bags containing substances suspected to be Canadian Loud, concealed in one of the rooms,” he said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly operated under the guise of selling thermal paper rolls used by Point of Sale (POS) machines, while using online platforms to distribute illegal substances both within and outside Lagos State.
In addition to the drugs, police recovered three vehicles fitted with forged special number plates, believed to have been used to evade security checks during transportation of the substances.
The vehicles include two BYD electric cars bearing forged presidency number plates marked NYCN 98SE, and one Leopard hybrid vehicle with a similar forged plate marked NYCN 10SE.
Other items recovered from the suspect include three Android phones, a Republic of Liberia resident permit card, two ATM cards, and an Emporio Armani wristwatch.

The AIG stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, assuring that all those connected to the operation would be brought to justice.
He added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling drug-related crimes and safeguarding public safety.
