The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has strengthened collaboration with the Senate to promote equitable infrastructural development and fair employment distribution across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
Executive Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, disclosed this during her first appearance before the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs since her appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking at the interactive session held on Wednesday in Abuja, Omidiran said the Commission is developing a comprehensive blueprint aimed at eliminating job racketeering and correcting long-standing imbalances in employment and infrastructure distribution nationwide.
She revealed that the Commission has already taken decisive steps to halt the sale of jobs, directing all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to publicly advertise vacancies on their official websites prior to recruitment.
According to her, the FCC will closely monitor these recruitment processes to ensure transparency, merit-based hiring, and equal opportunity for all qualified Nigerians, regardless of background or connections.
“We are committed to ensuring that every Nigerian gets a fair chance without needing to know anyone in positions of influence,” she said.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Senate Committee, Senator Ede Dafinone, reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to supporting the Commission through increased funding and necessary legislative amendments.

He noted that the National Assembly would work closely with the FCC to enhance its capacity to deliver on its mandate, particularly in addressing disparities in infrastructure and employment across the country.
Dafinone added that the collaboration is aimed at improving service delivery and meeting the expectations of Nigerians who seek fairness, inclusiveness, and balanced national development.
