Nigeria has congratulated the Government and people of the Republic of India on the country’s 77th Republic Day anniversary, describing the milestone as a powerful symbol of India’s enduring commitment to democracy, constitutional governance and inclusive development.

In a goodwill message, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, extended warm congratulations to India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, noting that Republic Day marks a defining moment in India’s history with the adoption of its Constitution.

According to a press statement signed by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria acknowledged India’s steady rise over the past seven decades as a respected global actor, driven by strong democratic institutions, technological innovation, economic growth and contributions to international peace and development.

Nigeria also commended India’s consistent engagement in development partnerships, capacity building and people-centred cooperation across Africa and other regions, describing the bilateral relationship between both countries as long-standing and cordial.

The two nations, the ministry noted, share expanding cooperation in critical sectors such as trade and investment, defence and security, science and technology, healthcare, education and energy, anchored on shared values and mutual respect.

Beyond bilateral ties, Nigeria and India continue to work closely within multilateral frameworks, including the United Nations and other international platforms, in pursuit of peace, sustainable development and a more equitable global order.
