Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have forged a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s digital identity ecosystem and enhancing service delivery for citizens at home and abroad.
Dabiri-Erewa gave the commendation during a high-level strategic meeting between the management teams of both agencies in Abuja, where discussions focused on deepening collaboration in digital identity, digital payments, and trusted data exchange systems.
She expressed confidence that the partnership would foster a seamless digital ecosystem, particularly benefiting Nigerians in the diaspora through improved data mapping and integration. She noted that NIMC operates the largest identity database in Africa, positioning it as a critical driver of Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
The NiDCOM boss also described the recent signing of the NIMC Act 2026 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a significant milestone that will accelerate the country’s digital evolution.
In her remarks, NIMC Director General, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, warmly welcomed the NiDCOM delegation, describing the commission as a key institution in identity management for Nigerians globally.
She disclosed that following the presidential assent to the NIMC Act 2026, the commission has commenced onboarding stakeholders across key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure effective implementation of reforms and delivery of expected outcomes.
According to her, NIMC is actively working to expand access to Public Digital Infrastructure and plans to integrate NiDCOM into its Reform Portal to enable real-time communication, data sharing, and operational efficiency.
Coker-Odusote further praised NiDCOM for initiating a data registration portal for Nigerians in the diaspora, assuring the commission of NIMC’s full cooperation in advancing the initiative.

Officials from both agencies described the partnership as a major step toward establishing a robust National Digital Governance Structure, which will strengthen digital identity systems, payment platforms, and trusted data exchange frameworks across the country.
The collaboration is expected to significantly enhance Nigeria’s digital economy and improve engagement with its diaspora population.
