The Nigerian Navy has handed over 106 parcels of suspected cannabis sativa recovered during a targeted operation in the Badagry-Porto Novo creeks to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary action.
The items were recovered by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Badagry, deployed at Naval Outpost Tongeji, following credible intelligence on suspected illicit drug activities in the maritime area.
The Commanding Officer of FOB Badagry, Navy Capt. S.M. Kabir, disclosed this in a statement issued in Badagry on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Kabir said the operation was conducted after naval personnel received credible human intelligence about suspected drug trafficking activities within the Badagry-Porto Novo creeks.
According to him, the patrol team recovered 106 parcels of suspected cannabis sativa during the operation, but no arrest was made as the suspected traffickers fled after sighting the naval personnel.
He said the recovered substances had subsequently been handed over to representatives of the NDLEA in line with established procedures.
The commanding officer reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to tackling illicit drug trafficking and other criminal activities within Nigeria’s maritime environment.

He added that FOB Badagry would continue to collaborate with the NDLEA and other relevant security agencies to strengthen security and curb criminal activities across the waterways.
Kabir also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies through appropriate channels to support ongoing efforts against drug trafficking and other maritime crimes.
