The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called for swift justice following a violent attack on members of a Muslim community in Oko Filling, Ijagba area of Ota in Ogun State, which left one victim critically injured.
In a statement issued late Thursday, MURIC’s Executive Director, Ishaq Akintola, condemned the assault and urged law enforcement authorities to ensure that those responsible are prosecuted without interference.
According to the group, the incident occurred when members of the Muslim community attempted to install CCTV cameras and solar-powered security lights at a local cemetery. The attackers, reportedly armed with dangerous weapons and accompanied by aggressive dogs, descended on the group, forcing many to flee into nearby bushes.
One victim identified as Al-Hilal was unable to escape and was allegedly attacked with machetes, sustaining severe head injuries. He is currently in critical condition at a hospital.
MURIC commended officers of the Itele Police Division for their prompt response, noting that the Divisional Police Officer and his team acted swiftly to confront the assailants and effect arrests.
However, the organisation stressed the need for sustained diligence by the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the case is not compromised.
The group described the attack as premeditated and warned against treating it lightly, emphasizing that failure to prosecute offenders could embolden further criminal acts.

“MURIC insists that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. Nigerians expect to see the suspects arraigned in court,” the statement added.
The incident has heightened concerns over community safety and religious tensions in the area, with calls for authorities to strengthen preventive security measures.
