The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has lauded the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) for appointing veteran journalist, Abbas Jimoh, as its new spokesperson, describing the decision as commendable and well-considered.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the Executive Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, praised the apex Islamic body for what he termed a transparent and inclusive selection process that produced a competent and experienced media professional.
Akintola noted that Jimoh’s background in journalism positions him as a suitable choice for the role, expressing confidence in his ability to effectively manage the council’s communications.
“The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) last week appointed Mr. Abbas Jimoh, a veteran journalist, as its spokesperson. Mr. Jimoh is well-grounded in the media profession and understands the dynamics of the Fourth Estate of the Realm,” he said.
He further described the appointment as placing “a square peg in a square hole,” emphasizing that Jimoh possesses the experience and expertise required to navigate the complexities of public communication.
MURIC also commended the leadership of the NSCIA for adopting what it described as inclusivity, transparency, and objectivity in the selection process.
“NSCIA leadership deserves encomiums for adopting inclusivity, transparency, and objectivity as its search mechanisms to pick its spokesperson. We are not surprised that the umbrella Islamic organization picked the right person,” Akintola added.

The group congratulated Jimoh on his appointment and urged him to discharge his responsibilities with diligence, courage, and a high level of professionalism.
The NSCIA serves as the apex body for Islamic affairs in Nigeria and plays a key role in representing Muslim interests across the country.
