An Islamic human rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), on Sunday condemned the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, describing it as an unlawful act of aggression and a violation of international law.
Khamenei was reportedly killed in a joint United States–Israel bombing of Iran on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
In a press release issued on Sunday, March 1, 2026, MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, said the development was “extremely outrageous, preposterous and unlawful,” warning that it signalled a dangerous shift in global diplomacy.
“We strongly condemn this killing. It is extremely outrageous, preposterous and unlawful. The attack constitutes an assault on international law and order,” Akintola stated.
He argued that the strike, which allegedly occurred while peaceful negotiations were ongoing, had sent “a strong, negative and most dangerous signal to the world that this is the age of criminal aggression, the end of friendly relations based on mutual trust, the era of ‘might is right’ and the demise of trans-Atlantic transparency.”
MURIC admonished Muslim leaders across the globe to be wary of the United States and its Western allies, asserting that continued trust in them could be misplaced.
Within Nigeria, the organisation called on Muslims to distance themselves from official engagements with leaders of other religious groups, while urging them to maintain peaceful coexistence at the community level.
“Within Nigeria, we call on Muslims to shun official engagements with leaders of other religious groups but to continue to be good neighbours to all, loving, giving and tolerating,” Akintola said.

He further advised Nigerian Muslims to remain peaceful, law-abiding and vigilant, stressing that “eternal vigilance is the price of freedom.”
The statement adds to growing international reactions trailing the reported killing, which has heightened tensions in the Middle East and drawn sharp criticism from various groups.
