The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has charged members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) to uphold accountability and professionalism, warning against the misuse of official identification in the course of their duties.
The directive came on Thursday as the IGP received a high-powered PCRC delegation on a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The delegation, led by its National Chairman, Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, included members of the National Executive Committee and representatives from various regional commands.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the PCRC leadership congratulated the IGP on his recent appointment and reaffirmed the committee’s loyalty and continued support for the Nigeria Police Force. Olaniyan also commended the IGP for recognising the strategic role of the PCRC in strengthening national security through community engagement.
In his response, IGP Disu expressed appreciation for the longstanding partnership between the police and the PCRC, assuring the delegation of sustained cooperation to enhance security outcomes across the country.
He, however, stressed the need for stricter internal oversight within the PCRC, cautioning that identification cards issued to members must be used strictly for legitimate purposes, particularly intelligence gathering, and not for personal or unlawful gains.

The police chief further urged members to conduct themselves as responsible and law-abiding citizens in order to preserve the credibility and integrity of the police-community relationship.
The visit underscores renewed efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to deepen community-based policing and strengthen collaboration with critical stakeholders in tackling security challenges nationwide.
