In a high spirit of celebration of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, hosted a special luncheon for frontline troops of the 8 Division and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Tureta in Sokoto State, in a move aimed at boosting morale and honouring their sacrifices.
According to a press statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army / Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the event underscored the Army’s commitment to fostering unity and camaraderie among troops deployed far from their families in defence of the nation.
Representing the COAS, the Commander Infantry Corps, Major General Godwin Mutkut, conveyed a message of appreciation, commending the troops for their discipline, resilience, and unwavering dedication. He described the joint celebration as a reflection of the Nigerian Army’s strong bond as a unified family.
In a goodwill message, the COAS praised the troops’ sacrifices, describing them as the backbone of Nigeria’s security architecture. He noted that the luncheon symbolised the Army’s solidarity, not only in combat situations but also during moments of celebration.
Lieutenant General Shaibu also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic leadership and continued support to the Nigerian Army. He reassured Nigerians of the Army’s firm commitment to safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring a secure environment for economic growth.
In his welcome remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, highlighted the significance of Eid-el-Kabir, noting that its core values of sacrifice, obedience, and faith resonate deeply with military service.
He commended the troops for their operational successes against terrorist networks and their prompt responses to communal conflicts within the Division’s area of responsibility.

Major General Koughna also expressed appreciation to the COAS for the sustained provision of combat enablers, timely reinforcements, and consistent attention to troop welfare. He urged personnel to remain steadfast and continue to uphold the trust reposed in them by Nigerians.
The luncheon served as both a morale booster and a reaffirmation of the Army’s resolve to support its personnel while advancing national security objectives.
