LAGOS — In a major humanitarian outreach to mark Children’s Day 2026, the Street Child Care and Welfare Initiative (SCCWI) has provided free meals and drinking water to over 3,000 vulnerable children and persons with disabilities (PWDs) across Lagos and parts of Ogun State.
The Project Director of SCCWI, Ms. Comfort Onyanta Alli, disclosed this to journalists in Lagos on Saturday, noting that the intervention targeted children living in slums, underserved communities, and on the streets.
According to Alli, the outreach was carried out under the organisation’s Feed The Children Project, an annual initiative launched in 2020 to combat child hunger, malnutrition, and neglect among disadvantaged children.
“Over the years, the project has continued to provide nourishment, hope, and social support to children who are often overlooked,” she said.
She explained that this year’s exercise mobilised over 30 volunteers from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Osun States, who committed between five hours and three days of service to reach beneficiaries in areas including Oko Agbon, Ikorodu, the IDP Camp at Igbo Efon in Lekki, Oshodi, Mushin, Ologo Otto Slum, Oko Baba, Yaba, and selected communities in Ogun State.
Reaffirming SCCWI’s mission, Alli stressed the organisation’s commitment to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive regardless of their circumstances.
“We believe no child should go hungry. Through the Feed The Children Project, we are not only providing meals but also restoring hope and reminding vulnerable children that they are valued and cared for,” she stated.
Beneficiaries and community members expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention amid economic hardship.
One young beneficiary said, “Thank you for the food. I am happy today,” while a community leader noted that such programmes bring relief to families struggling to meet basic needs.
A volunteer also described the experience as rewarding, saying, “The smiles on the children’s faces made every minute of our service worthwhile. It was a humbling experience.”

While celebrating the success of the 2026 edition, SCCWI acknowledged that more support is needed and pledged to continue partnering with individuals, organisations, and government agencies to improve the welfare and future of vulnerable children across Nigeria.
The organisation also expressed gratitude to donors, volunteers, and partners whose contributions made the outreach possible.
