The Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), St. Joseph Catholic Church, Adeleye, Ogun State, has joined Catholics worldwide to mark Mothering Sunday.
The parish, with outstations including Church of Presentation, Fence, and St. Valentine, Ejigun celebrated mothers for their sacrifices and devotion.
The CWO President, Mrs Felicia Nwaokolo-oba, described the day as a time to honour women for nurturing homes, promoting peace and upholding the Christian faith.
She said mothers draw inspiration from the Blessed Virgin Mary, a model of faith, hope and love.
According to her, the celebration fosters unity among women and appreciation for the gift of motherhood.
She urged members to remain steadfast in faith despite challenges, emphasising prayer, hope and devotion to the Virgin Mary as pathways to overcoming difficulties.
She also called on mothers to raise children with strong Christian and Catholic values.
Also speaking, Mrs Agatha Elue urged mothers to value and celebrate themselves, noting that Mothering Sunday recognises their sacrifices in caring for families and homes.
She observed that many women rarely make time for themselves due to heavy responsibilities.
According to her, the day offers an opportunity for rest, reflection and appreciation of their roles.
She encouraged mothers to set aside chores and celebrate, describing the occasion as a once-a-year event.
In her remarks, Elder Mrs Elizabeth Oyana urged women to emulate the virtues of Mother Mary as a model of faith and humility.
Oyana said witnessing another Mothering Sunday is a grace worthy of gratitude to God.
She encouraged mothers to remain steadfast in doing good and serve as positive role models to younger women.
According to her, exemplary living would inspire others to uphold godly values and righteousness.
She also urged women to promote unity, peace and love in their homes and communities.
Similarly, Mrs Oluchi Eka-iloma CWO Secretary, called on women to maintain good conduct and nurture their children with love and discipline.
Eka urged mothers to be good role models not only to their families but also to the nation.
Elder Mrs Christy Ukachi, patroness and Pillar-to-be of the CWO, said:
” I am wishing them all the best. I am praying that our mothers will not die young, praying that God will keep them alive to take care of their children.
