Retired senior police officers, including two former Inspectors-General of Police, have offered serving officers practical lessons from past elections as the police strengthen preparations for emerging security challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The experience-sharing formed part of the key highlights of CARSPO 2026, which brought together serving and retired police officers, security experts and other professionals to discuss national security and electoral issues.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, said the contributions of the retired officers had added significant value to the conference, particularly their insights from previous election cycles.
Disu specifically cited the presentation by former IGP Usman Ali Baba, who drew from his experience during the 2023 general elections to provide participants with insights, solutions and advice on addressing emerging security and electoral challenges.
According to the IGP, Baba also encouraged participants to return to their respective communities and replicate the engagement and knowledge-sharing witnessed at CARSPO 2026.
Disu described the lectures at the conference as stimulating, didactic and educative, adding that participating police officers were pleased to be part of the programme.
He also commended the Chief Executive Officer of Lenders Consult, Dr Shina Phillips, for his professionalism and contribution to the successful organisation of the conference.
The IGP said the programme had so far progressed without hitches, attributing the smooth running of the event to the professionalism of the organisers.
He expressed satisfaction with the calibre of experts assembled for the conference, describing the programme put together by Lenders Consult as impressive.
Disu said his initial concerns about the programme were allayed after witnessing the quality of lecturers and experts participating in the event.

The IGP’s remarks underscored the importance of institutional memory and experience-sharing in equipping serving officers with lessons from previous elections and strengthening their response to future security challenges.
