The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit challenging Senator Victor Umeh’s nomination as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Anambra Central Senatorial District in the January 16, 2027 National Assembly election.
The suit, filed by Chidi Okoye, questioned Umeh’s nomination following the party’s primary election held on May 29, 2026.
Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik held, among other reasons, that the dispute concerned the internal affairs of a political party and was therefore not justiciable.
The court also upheld Umeh’s nomination as the NDC candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District, citing the preponderance of evidence presented before it.

The ruling represents a legal setback for Okoye, who had challenged the outcome of the party’s primary election and Umeh’s emergence as its candidate.
With the court’s decision, Umeh’s nomination by the NDC for the forthcoming senatorial election remains upheld, subject to any further legal proceedings.
The National Assembly election is scheduled for January 16, 2027.
