Senator Allwell Onyesoh, the chairman of the Senate committee on federal character, has pledged unwavering support to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to optimize its operations.
He emphasized the committee’s commitment to persuading the Senate to allocate increased funding for the Commission.
Senator Onyesoh conveyed this assurance during an interactive session in Abuja on Thursday, where he engaged with a delegation from the FRSC, led by Corp Marshal Shehu Mohammed.
He also extended congratulations to Corp Marshal Mohammed on his recent appointment.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate has called upon the FRSC to streamline its emergency response time, citing that delays have resulted in avoidable loss of lives and property.
In response to the committee’s feedback, Corp Marshal Shehu Mohammed acknowledged the need for improvement within the Commission. He highlighted the shortage of towing trucks as a hindrance to operational efficiency and sought the committee’s support in addressing this challenge.
Corp Marshal Mohammed further revealed plans to launch a mobile application designed to pinpoint high-risk areas and forewarn drivers of potential crash zones along highways. This innovative app will serve as a comprehensive platform for accessing FRSC services and guidelines conveniently.
Moreover, he mentioned the Commission’s initiative to integrate technology by equipping personnel with body cameras and implementing electronic booking systems to streamline administrative processes and reduce operational costs.
