Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have neutralised a suspected terrorist element and recovered two AK-47 rifles and other military-related items during an intelligence-led operation in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation was conducted on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at about 9:50 a.m., by troops of Sector 2 deployed at Zak village in Wase LGA as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activities and deny terrorists freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the troops were conducting stop-and-search operations when they intercepted a green-coloured Golf vehicle with registration number DKA-808XM.
A search of the vehicle revealed a well-fabricated and concealed compartment inside the dashboard. When the troops directed the driver to open the compartment, he allegedly refused and fled into a nearby bush.
The troops pursued and apprehended the driver, who, upon arrest, reportedly attempted to disarm one of the soldiers. He was subsequently neutralised by the troops.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, one magazine, two wooden rifle butts, nine magazine pouches, two camel bags, six jungle hats, a mobile phone and an ATM card.
The Commander, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Maxwell Dangana, commended the troops for maintaining what he described as a decisive and aggressive posture in ongoing operations against criminal elements.

Dangana urged the troops to sustain the momentum and offensive posture, while calling on residents to continue supporting the military with timely and actionable information.
He said enhanced collaboration between security forces and citizens remained critical to enabling the troops effectively discharge their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property across the Joint Operations Area.
