The Federal Government has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate, Miss Nnani Adaobi Marian, who reportedly died from injuries sustained during a Russian aerial attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was signed by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa. the government confirmed that the deceased was a graduate of Kharkiv National Medical University and described her death as a tragic consequence of the ongoing conflict in the Eastern European country.
The Ministry said it received the news “with profound sadness,” extending condolences to Marian’s family, friends, colleagues, and members of the Nigerian community affected by the incident.
“The Federal Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and the Nigerian community affected by this tragic loss,” the statement read.
It added that efforts are ongoing to verify the exact circumstances surrounding her death, noting that Nigerian missions in Ukraine and Germany are actively engaging relevant authorities to provide necessary consular support to the family.
“The Ministry is in contact with the relevant authorities as well as Nigeria’s Missions in Ukraine and Germany to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident and to provide the necessary consular assistance to the family,” it stated.
The Federal Government also renewed its concern over the continued loss of civilian lives in the protracted Russia-Ukraine conflict, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
“Nigeria reiterates its deep concern over the continuing loss of civilian lives arising from the ongoing conflict and renews its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities,” the statement added.

The government urged all parties involved in the conflict to embrace dialogue and diplomacy, stressing the need for peaceful resolution in line with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
It further reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerians abroad, pledging to continue monitoring the situation while providing support through its diplomatic missions.
