A cleric, Rev. Canon Chukwudi Anasiudu, has underscored the critical role of fathers in shaping the future of their children through consistent prayer, responsible leadership, discipline and godly example.
Anasiudu, who is the Vicar of St. Paul’s Church, Anglican Communion, Maza-Maza, made the call during the global celebration of Father’s Day, describing fatherhood as a sacred responsibility that goes beyond material provision.
He noted that Father’s Day serves as a reminder of the duty placed on fathers to nurture, guide and support their children’s moral, emotional and spiritual development.
According to him, many societal challenges affecting young people today could be mitigated if fathers embraced their roles as spiritual anchors within the family.
“Fathers must prioritise prayer for their children, even within busy schedules, because prayer remains one of the greatest gifts a father can give his family,” he said.
The cleric emphasised that children learn more from observation than instruction, making it imperative for fathers to model integrity, patience, respect and emotional control in their daily lives.
He added that the way fathers relate with their spouses and manage disagreements significantly influences children’s understanding of love, respect and conflict resolution.
“Children observe everything at home; fathers must therefore demonstrate godly conduct, knowing that their actions become lasting lessons,” he explained.
Anasiudu further stated that while financial provision is important, it must be complemented with emotional support, mentorship and spiritual guidance to raise responsible adults.
He urged fathers to remain actively involved in their children’s lives, combining discipline with love and consistent presence.

“A good father is not measured only by provision but by presence, values and example; fathers must lead their homes with wisdom and unwavering integrity,” he added.
The service featured special prayers for fathers and families, with congregants encouraged to renew their commitment to strong family values and responsible parenting.
