The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to disregard what it described as a “campaign of calumny” against Senator Abdul Azeez Yari, warning that recent allegations targeting the former Zamfara State governor are politically motivated.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the group said the claims against the senator were part of a deliberate attempt to undermine one of President Tinubu’s strongest political allies.
The civil liberties organisation, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), argued that Senator Yari remains a prominent supporter of the president across northern and south-western political blocs, insisting that his contributions to political mobilisation and support for the administration should not be overlooked.
“Senator Yari is a highly respected lawmaker and a strong promoter of the interests of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu across regions,” the statement read, adding that the senator had reportedly invested personal resources to strengthen political support for the president.
MURIC alleged that the accusations against Yari were driven by “power play” and attempts by unnamed actors to weaken the president’s political base.
“We confidently declare the allegations against him as false, malicious and baseless. It is a vicious campaign of calumny designed to diminish his influence,” the group stated.
The organisation further urged President Tinubu to remain focused on governance and “ignore the hanky-panky” of those it described as political agitators seeking to isolate loyal allies.

The senator at the centre of the controversy, Abdul Azeez Yari, has recently faced unspecified allegations from various quarters, though details of the claims were not addressed in the MURIC statement.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not publicly responded to the appeal at the time of filing this report.
