The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has been nominated for the 2025 Responsive Humanitarian Leadership Award by Blueprint Newspapers, in recognition of her impactful leadership in disaster management and humanitarian response across Nigeria.
The nomination was formally conveyed on Wednesday at the NEMA Headquarters in Abuja by the Chairman of the Editorial Board of Blueprint Newspapers, Mrs. Zainab Suleiman-Okino, who presented the nomination letter to the NEMA boss.
Suleiman-Okino explained that the nomination followed a rigorous assessment by the newspaper’s awards selection committee, which found Umar highly deserving of the honour due to her commitment to coordinating timely, structured, and effective humanitarian interventions, particularly during national emergencies and crises.
She also extended an invitation to the NEMA Director General to attend the forthcoming award ceremony, scheduled to hold at a later date.
In her response, Umar expressed gratitude to Blueprint Newspapers for the recognition, describing it as a testament to the collective efforts of the agency.

She dedicated the nomination to the management and staff of NEMA, as well as to its partners and stakeholders, acknowledging their continued support and collaboration in strengthening disaster preparedness and response in the country.
The award seeks to celebrate individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in humanitarian service delivery and crisis management.
