The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has expressed deep shock and sadness over the sudden death of U.S.-based Nigerian physician, Dr. Uzoma Nwaubani, during a medical mission in Abia State.
In a statement issued by the Commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa described the late doctor’s passing as a profound loss not only to her family but to Nigeria at large.
She noted that Dr. Nwaubani was a committed and passionate member of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas, consistently demonstrating a strong dedication to humanitarian service through medical outreaches and missions aimed at improving healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
According to the statement, the deceased had travelled to Abia State as part of ANPA’s initiative to give back to the country through free medical services. However, she reportedly developed a medical emergency during the mission. Despite efforts by a team of skilled medical professionals to resuscitate her, she could not be saved.

Dabiri-Erewa extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and members of ANPA, praying for the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. She also prayed for the peaceful repose of the late doctor’s soul.
The tragic incident has cast a shadow over the ongoing efforts of diaspora professionals contributing to Nigeria’s healthcare system, highlighting both their sacrifices and commitment to national development.
