HallowMace Foundation Unveils National Legislative Awards to Promote Accountability, Excellence in Lawmaking
Abuja, Nigeria — In a move aimed at strengthening democratic governance and restoring public confidence in Nigeria’s legislature, HallowMace Foundation Africa has announced plans to host the inaugural National Legislative Awards 2026 in July.
The awards, organized by the Nigerian non-profit organization in partnership with key civil society groups, will recognize outstanding performance among members of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly, with a focus on integrity, accountability, effective lawmaking, and quality representation.
According to the Foundation, the initiative is designed to spotlight legislators who have demonstrated excellence in legislative duties, including oversight functions, constituency service, and policy impact, while encouraging best practices across Nigeria’s parliamentary institutions.
Executive Director of HallowMace Foundation Africa, Ambassador Anderson Osiebe, said the awards mark a strategic shift from advocacy to performance-based recognition within the legislative space.
“After ten years of diligent work in parliamentary advocacy, these awards represent a natural evolution of our mission. They are not merely a celebration, but a strategic tool to incentivize excellence, foster healthy competition, and rebuild public trust in the critical institution of the legislature,” Osiebe stated.
Supporting the initiative, Dr. Chris Odey of the International Goodwill Ambassador Club noted that the awards align with efforts to entrench accountability within governance structures.
“The award’s goal of recognizing distinguished parliamentarians who excel in their duties aligns directly with our organizational objectives. It is aimed at promoting accountability and excellence within the legislative framework,” he said.
Similarly, Dr. Chibuzo Okereke of ERGAF Africa described the awards as a performance-driven intervention that would help deepen policy effectiveness across legislative chambers.
“The proposed award ceremony is aimed at promoting accelerated performance, accountability, and sound policy formulation within Nigeria’s parliamentary chambers, while providing a suitable evaluation mechanism within legislative circles,” Okereke noted.
Founder of the Isabella Ayuk Foundation, Queen Isabella Ayuk, emphasized the credibility of the selection process, assuring that merit would remain the sole criterion.
“This award ceremony is designed to be an outstanding and credible mechanism for assessing legislative performance. Its selection process will strictly adhere to due process, be devoid of favoritism, and be based purely on merit,” she said.
The National Legislative Awards 2026 is powered by HallowMace Foundation Africa, in partnership with the International Goodwill Ambassador Club, ERGAF Africa, and the Isabella Ayuk Foundation.
