The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Environment on Monday visited the headquarters of the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) to conduct an oversight and on-the-spot assessment of the agency’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative.
The Committee, led by its Chairman, Hon. Adebola Shabi, said the visit was part of the Assembly’s oversight responsibilities aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and public awareness in the implementation of government programmes.
Speaking during the visit, Shabi underscored the need for adequate sensitization and stakeholder engagement on the PPP initiative, particularly at the grassroots level.
“The people have given us their mandate, and it is our responsibility to ensure they are properly informed and considered in every government programme, especially the PPP arrangement,” he said.
Responding, the Managing Director of LWC, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, thanked the Committee members for their continuous support and emphasised the Corporation’s commitment to transparency and service delivery.
He attributed the Corporation’s recent progress to the backing of the House Committee on Environment and reiterated LWC’s determination to ensure sustainable access to potable water for Lagos residents.
Represented by the Head of Transformation and Strategy Department, Engr. Titilola Bright-Oridami, Tijani gave a presentation on the level of public awareness created around the concessioning initiative and its expected benefits.
Other members of the Committee, including Hon. Stephen Ogundipe and Hon. Sobur Oluwa, commended the LWC’s efforts but urged the agency to expand public education on water production and ensure equitable distribution across the state.

Oluwa described the concessioning plan as a “turning point” in the State’s water management system and called for the inclusion of all stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation.
The Committee expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded by the LWC and pledged continued legislative support to enhance the Corporation’s operations and improve potable water supply across the state.
