The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, CFR, FCNA, has awarded scholarships to 1,000 undergraduates from Kano State to study various courses at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, award letters will be presented to the beneficiaries in Kano on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
The initiative, implemented through the Barau I. Jibrin Foundation (BIJF), is aimed at promoting academic excellence and widening access to higher education for deserving students. The matriculation ceremony for the new scholars will take place on Monday, September 22, at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma.

Senator Barau, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, has consistently supported education. Last year, he sponsored 70 students to pursue postgraduate degrees abroad in fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Forensic Sciences.
In addition, 300 postgraduate students are currently enrolled across six leading Nigerian universities, including Bayero University Kano, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, under his scholarship scheme.
