The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius, MON, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the vision and political will needed to reform Nigeria’s Marine and Blue Economy sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dr. Akutah gave the commendation on Thursday when the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Marine Transport, Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni, led members of the Committee on an oversight visit to the NSC Headquarters in Lagos.
He lauded the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, for his dynamic leadership, noting that the Minister’s guidance has repositioned the Council as a key driver of trade facilitation, regulation, and growth.
Acknowledging the legislative arm, Dr. Akutah described the recent passage of the Nigerian Port Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA) Bill 2025 as a “historic milestone” that will guarantee fairness, transparency, and competitiveness at the nation’s ports.
“This achievement will forever reshape Nigeria’s maritime industry and stands as the legislature’s enduring legacy in strengthening this critical sector,” he said.

In his remarks, Senator Eshinlokun-Sanni explained that the Committee’s oversight visit was in line with the constitutional responsibility of the National Assembly to ensure accountability and efficiency in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
He further pledged the Committee’s support for the Council’s transition into NPERA, stressing that the agency would enhance the NSC’s regulatory capacity and boost the competitiveness of Nigeria’s ports.
