The Lagos State Government has announced a target of 1,000 applications from indigenes for the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment under the 89 Regular Recruits Intake for Trades and Non-Tradesmen and Women.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, disclosed this on Wednesday during a sensitisation campaign held at the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat.
According to her, 600 Lagos indigenes have already applied, but the state hopes to increase the number to at least 1,000 before the application deadline on May 17.
She explained that President Bola Tinubu has directed that each state should ensure the recruitment of at least 150 of its indigenes, and Lagos is determined to meet and surpass that target.
“All applicants will go through a screening process,” she said, describing military service as a noble profession dedicated to protecting lives.
“This is a national call to serve our fatherland. It is a call to duty, both for Nigeria and for Lagos State,” Salu-Hundeyin stated.

She urged young Lagosians aged 18 to 26 to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that the military also provides free professional training in fields such as law, medicine, and engineering.
Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, Mrs. Mojisola Badmus, encouraged parents to support their children’s enlistment in the military.
“The Nigerian Armed Forces offer diverse career paths. It’s not just about war. But if we don’t defend our land, who will do it for us?” she said.
