In order to boost revenue generation, the National Lottery Regulatory Commission has sought 10bn to generate 700bn, through its committee.
However, the Chairman Senate Committee on Sport Development, Senator Kawu Sumaila , said this will call for oversight functions.
He added that it is the constitutional responsibility of legislators during lawmaking procedure to oversight and representation. “Additional funding for the national lottery will bring more money into the government revenue.”
The senator representing the people of Kano South senatorial district, revealed this during budget presentation and submission before the Senate Committee on Appropriation on Wednesday in Abuja.
In his response, the Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriations, Sen. Solomon Adeola Olamilekan said the lottery commission seeking for 10b to generate 700b, should provide a template of how the revenue can be generated.
He added that this should include the long-term and the immediate-term. “For both the Legislatures and the executive to work upon before the release of the budget.”
