The Headquarters of the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, has welcomed a strong condemnation by the Ezeagu Council of Traditional Rulers over the recent attack on military personnel in Imezi Owa community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, describing the stance as a validation of the military’s operations in the region.
In a press statement issued on Sunday by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, the Division drew public attention to a communiqué released on May 8, 2026, and signed by the Council’s Chairman, HRH Igwe Emmanuel Anichebe, and Secretary, HRH Igwe Dr Raphael Okolo.
The traditional rulers had unequivocally condemned the unlawful attack on troops, aligning with the Army’s earlier account that soldiers of Sector 1, Operation UDO KA successfully repelled an assault by armed terrorists on May 6, 2026.
Expressing deep concern over the incident, the Council called for a thorough investigation while urging residents of Ezeagu to continue supporting the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police, and other security agencies. The monarchs also commended the Enugu State Government for its commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that sustainable peace depends on collaboration among traditional institutions, government, and security agencies.
The 82 Division commended the traditional rulers for their firm stance, noting that such support underscores the importance of civil-military cooperation in tackling insecurity and restoring stability in the South-East.
It further urged residents to expose individuals providing safe havens to criminal elements, warning that such actions undermine community security and development.
The Army described the communiqué as a strong endorsement of its operational approach, emphasizing that its efforts are being carried out in collaboration with local stakeholders to restore lasting peace.
The Division also reassured the public that no lives were lost during the attack, while injured personnel are receiving adequate medical care. It added that ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY will sustain efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and deny them freedom of action across the region.
