RATTAWU celebrates World Television Day

THE Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU), Lagos State Council, has urged media practitioners to promote positive change and uphold ethical standards in broadcasts.

Its State Chairman, Mr Ishola Adejumo, made the call in a statement in commemoration of World Television Day marked annually on Nov. 21.

Adejumo said that it was vital that practitioners continued to use television as a tool for fostering peace, education, and inclusivity.

“This year’s World Television Day theme, “Shaping the Future Through Media,” reminds us of the powerful role television continues to play in shaping narratives, educating societies, and connecting people across diverse cultures.

“From informing the public on critical matters to entertaining and preserving our rich cultural heritage, television remains an indispensable medium in advancing development and unity, “ he said.

The Labour leader commended the dedication and creativity of members who worked tirelessly to uphold the values of truth, professionalism, and innovation in their various capacities.

He said: “Your commitment has not only kept the wheels of the media industry turning, but has also contributed significantly to nation-building.

“Let us continue to champion excellence and innovation in television production and broadcasting as we celebrate our collective achievements and pave the way for a brighter future in the media landscape.”

Adejumo said that the union would be hosting a panel discussion virtually on Nov. 25, 2024, titled, “Television as a Catalyst for Socio-Economic Growth: Challenges and Opportunities in Nigeria”.
