Salihu Mohammed Lukman’s persistent efforts to assert his relevance in the political arena have led him to unfairly criticize the esteemed leadership of the National Assembly, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD.
Lukman’s unfounded accusations against the National Assembly are regrettable distractions from the real challenges facing our nation. Those who thrive on chaos and discord are the true hindrances to national unity and advancement. Instead of responsibly addressing national issues, Lukman chooses to undermine dedicated leaders who are devoted to serving the nation.
Known for his rigid and self-righteous demeanor, Lukman often positions himself as the ultimate authority on truth, disregarding differing perspectives.
According to a press statement signed Statement by Hon. Chief Dr. Philip Agbese, Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
This inflexibility impedes meaningful dialogue and constructive interaction. We implore Lukman to refrain from involving Senate President Akpabio and Speaker Abbas in his disputes, as the National Assembly has no role in catering to disgruntled political figures.
Considering Lukman’s consistent political setbacks, including his lackluster performance in various roles and his challenges in maintaining relationships within political circles, it is noteworthy that his recent tenures as Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum and as National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ended in his ignominious resignation from these positions, acknowledging his limitations.
Lukman is advised to reflect on his actions and embrace constructive criticism and the restraint expected of a seasoned statesman.
The 10th Assembly remains steadfast in its constitutional duty of holding the executive branch accountable while advocating for productive engagement over unnecessary discord. Disagreements with the executive are approached with patriotism and the nation’s best interests at heart. Unproductive conflict between government branches serves no purpose and undermines our nation’s advancement.
The National Assembly welcomes constructive critiques and feedback from well-intentioned Nigerians, as we uphold our dedication to serving the nation with integrity and diligence.
