The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to supporting the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) and its leadership under President Godfrey Bivbere.
Maikaba made this pledge when MARAN executives paid him a courtesy visit at the command headquarters in Lagos. He commended the association—Nigeria’s oldest maritime journalists’ beat group—for its responsible and professional reportage of the maritime sector and the activities of the police command.
“I appreciate the warm hands of fellowship extended to me and pledge a cordial working relationship with the association,” Maikaba stated.
Speaking earlier, Bivbere explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening ties between MARAN and the command while expressing solidarity with the commissioner. He assured Maikaba of the association’s continued support, emphasizing that MARAN would give extensive coverage to the command’s achievements.

“As the police play a crucial role in securing Nigeria’s maritime gateways—key to international trade and foreign exchange earnings—it is essential that their efforts receive adequate media attention,” Bivbere said.
