The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has commended former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for what it described as his vibrancy, versatility and resilience as the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 general elections intensifies.
MURIC made the commendation in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, by its Founder and Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola.
The Islamic activism platform said Atiku’s persistence in seeking the presidency, despite having contested the position six times previously, demonstrated a level of doggedness that had become “legendary.”
According to MURIC, the former Vice President’s approach to scrutinising and interrogating the activities of the President Bola Tinubu administration has been particularly notable.
The group described his method as “fascinating, inspiring and didactic,” saying young politicians could learn from his conduct as an opposition figure.
MURIC said: “Atiku comes across as an experienced, articulate, bold and enterprising politician. He has been far ahead of Peter Obi in giving the Tinubu administration a run for its money although some Nigerians are yet to appreciate his efforts.”
The group consequently declared that Atiku remained “the man to watch in 2027,” as political realignments and preparations for the next general elections gather momentum.
However, MURIC was quick to distance its commendation from an endorsement of Atiku or any political party.
The organisation stressed that it had not adopted a preferred presidential candidate or political party for the 2027 elections.
“This commendation should not be mistaken for an endorsement,” MURIC said. “MURIC has no preferred candidate or political party yet. We will speak on that at the appropriate time.”

The statement comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to intensify, with opposition figures and political parties positioning themselves for the contest.
MURIC’s comments, therefore, place particular emphasis on Atiku’s longevity, resilience and sustained role in challenging the policies and activities of the incumbent administration.
