The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, has ordered a renewed and intensified military offensive against terrorist groups in Nigeria’s North East following recent suicide bomb incidents in Maiduguri.

The directive came during a high-level operational visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI, less than 24 hours after the attacks within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council heightened security concerns across the region.

Addressing officers and troops at the Maimalari Cantonment, Oluyede commended personnel for their resilience and sustained pressure on insurgents but urged them to intensify efforts. He directed field commanders to escalate offensive operations, enhance intelligence coordination, and adopt innovative strategies to dominate the battlespace.

The defence chief stressed that maintaining operational momentum is crucial to achieving a decisive defeat of terrorist elements, assuring troops of continued strategic support from Defence Headquarters.

In his remarks, Shaibu praised troops for their consistent operational successes, noting that their efforts have significantly weakened terrorist capabilities. He charged commanders to sustain the tempo and adopt a firm “never again” posture to prevent further attacks, particularly during the sensitive Ramadan period.

The Army Chief also pledged additional operational support and critical resources to strengthen force protection and boost the effectiveness of ongoing operations.

Earlier, the Theatre Commander briefed the military leadership on recent developments, revealing that over 200 terrorist fighters had been neutralised in recent engagements, with several others injured.
