Lagos, Nigeria — The Federal Government has announced the successful return of 83 Nigerian citizens from South Africa, with the repatriation exercise facilitated by private individuals who funded their flight tickets.
The returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, from Johannesburg aboard a South African Airways flight. They were accompanied by two officials of the Consulate-General of Nigeria in Johannesburg.
The development was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
The Ministry said the repatriation exercise underscored the role of public-private support in ensuring the safe return of Nigerians facing challenges abroad.
On arrival, the returnees were received by the Director of the African Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Haruna Ali-Gombe, on behalf of the Federal Government.
They were subsequently handed over to relevant government agencies for documentation and profiling ahead of their reunification with their families.

The Ministry expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Mission in South Africa, the private individuals who sponsored the returnees’ flight tickets and other agencies involved in ensuring a smooth reception and reintegration process.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to the welfare, protection and safe return of Nigerian citizens abroad.
