The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully thwarted five ‘one-chance’ robbery attempts, rescuing three victims, including a heavily pregnant woman.
Speaking on the operations, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, revealed that 296 vehicles had also been impounded for various traffic violations, including the use of tinted windows, driving with a single license plate, and the concealment or defacement of number plates. He attributed the successes to the proactive strategies employed by the police and the critical role of public collaboration in maintaining the safety of FCT residents.
In one notable case, operatives from the Karimo Division responded promptly to a distress call, arresting one Ikechukwu Nerem and rescuing Doris Gabriel, a heavily pregnant woman abducted by a gang posing as commercial vehicle operators.
The police also apprehended several suspects linked to robbery and conspiracy. Among them were members of a syndicate that used knives and machetes to rob victims at traffic points and bus stops.
Also, the D20 Squad arrested three individuals involved in daylight robberies across Abuja. This included a female suspect who confessed to her gang’s coordinated operations.
Other arrests included a fake soldier, vandals, burglars, and car theft suspects. Investigations into these cases are ongoing.
The FCT Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in combating crime.
