Fadahunsi Hails Akande at 87, Salutes Legacy of Progressive Politics, Democratic Struggle
Abuja — Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR, representing Osun East Senatorial District, has paid glowing tribute to elder statesman and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, as he marks his 87th birthday, describing him as a pillar of progressive politics and a symbol of integrity in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
In a congratulatory statement issued on Friday by his Head of Media and Public Enlightenment, Omole Olusegun Omo-Osodi, Senator Fadahunsi praised Chief Akande’s lifelong commitment to selfless service, democracy, and nation-building, noting that his political life remains a reference point for present and future leaders.
Fadahunsi described the former Osun State governor as a devoted Awoist and an unyielding advocate of progressive ideals, whose courage and convictions stood firm during Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggles. He hailed Akande as a mentor and role model fondly known as “Baba awon Omo kekeke,” whose influence has shaped generations of political leaders.
“I rejoice with His Excellency, Chief Bisi Akande, on this remarkable milestone of 87 years. Your life is a shining example of courage, deep conviction, and selfless service to humanity and the nation,” the senator said, offering prayers for continued strength, grace, and good health.
Highlighting Akande’s distinguished public service record, Fadahunsi recalled his roles as Secretary to the Government of old Oyo State, Deputy Governor, and Governor of Osun State between 1999 and 2003. He also underscored Akande’s pivotal role as Interim National Chairman of the APC, where his leadership contributed significantly to the party’s historic victory in the 2015 general elections.
The senator further noted Chief Akande’s involvement in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), describing his role in the struggle against military rule as a defining chapter in Nigeria’s democratic evolution.
According to Fadahunsi, even in retirement from elective politics, Chief Akande continues to contribute to national development through intellectual leadership, currently serving as Chairman of the Governing Board of the University of Ibadan.
