Amnesty International has urged the federal government to immediately launch an independent investigation into the killing of seven people in Kaduna South with swift prosecution of those responsible
The organization condemned the persistent insecurity in southern Kaduna after armed assailants killed seven people in an attack on Unguwan Rimi village, Kamaru ward, Kauru Local Government Area, on August 24, 2025. The victims were buried on Saturday as grief and fear grip the community.

The assault, which also left several residents injured and displaced, reduced much of the village to ruins. Amnesty International criticised Nigerian security agencies for what it described as a “consistent failure” to protect vulnerable communities, noting that security personnel often arrive hours after attackers have fled.
“Beyond the failure of security forces to prevent or respond to these attacks in time, the absence of justice for victims deepens the sense of insecurity. Communities are left completely exposed when perpetrators are not held accountable,” the rights group said in a statement.
