Abuja, Nigeria — Businessman, entrepreneur and legal practitioner, Sir Godfrey Ohuabunwa, has called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in pursuing their dreams, declaring that faith in God, discipline and perseverance can overcome even decades of delay.
Ohuabunwa made this appeal in a statement issued ahead of his Call to the Nigerian Bar in Abuja, where he reflected on his over 40-year journey to becoming a lawyer.
He described his personal experience as evidence that delays should not be mistaken for denial, noting that his long-held ambition to study Law eventually came to fruition through what he termed divine intervention.
“There is no dream that God cannot bring to pass. No matter how long it takes, if you remain faithful, disciplined and committed, God will accomplish His purpose for your life,” he said.
According to the statement, Ohuabunwa’s pursuit of a legal career began after completing secondary school in the mid-1980s, but repeated attempts to gain admission to study Law proved unsuccessful despite meeting the required qualifications.
Undeterred, he enrolled in alternative academic programmes, including IJMB and remedial studies, before eventually gaining admission to study English Language and Literature at the University of Maiduguri.
“I could have concluded that it was not meant to be, but I refused to bury the dream. I believed that God’s plan was greater than my disappointment, and I continued to prepare myself for the day the opportunity would come,” he stated.
Despite building a successful career in business and achieving other academic milestones, Ohuabunwa said his aspiration to become a lawyer never waned.
He explained that the turning point came during the COVID-19 pandemic when he seized the opportunity to study Law, excelled academically and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, where he completed the professional requirements to qualify as a legal practitioner.
He attributed the eventual fulfillment of his ambition to divine grace, adding that his decision to dedicate his life to Christ in 1995 played a pivotal role in strengthening his resolve through years of waiting.
“My life is a testimony that with God, nothing is impossible. There were seasons of disappointment and waiting, but every delay was preparing me for God’s appointed time,” he said.
Ohuabunwa urged young Nigerians and others facing setbacks not to lose hope, stressing that temporary failures and rejections should not define their future.

“Do not allow rejection to define you. Do not allow delay to destroy your faith. Keep believing, keep working, keep praying and keep preparing. When God’s time comes, no force on earth can stop what He has ordained for you,” he added.
He also expressed appreciation to his family, mentors and supporters, noting that his Call to the Bar represents not just a personal milestone but a testimony meant to inspire others to remain faithful and committed to their aspirations.
