The Federal Government of Nigeria has formalized two significant agreements with Siemens Healthineers, its Nigerian partner Tanit Medical Engineering, and Abbott Laboratories GmbH to improve healthcare access and capacity in Nigeria.
The agreements were signed by Dr. Abdu Mukhtar, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), with Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, in attendance.
This development was announced in a press statement issued by Alaba Balogun, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, over the weekend.
The partnerships aim to:
Facilitate the local assembly of ultrasound systems.
Enhance medical training for Nigerian professionals.
Improve the self-reliance of the national healthcare system.
Ensure access to high-quality, locally produced diagnostic solutions.
Prof. Pate commended Dr. Mukhtar and his team for their dedication to attracting investors to Nigeria’s healthcare sector. He also emphasized the importance of the Executive Order providing incentives to health sector investors.
Dr. Mukhtar described the agreements as pivotal to reducing reliance on imports and expanding access to medical devices in Nigeria.
“This MoU embodies our shared vision for advancing healthcare, improving access, enhancing outcomes, and unlocking Nigeria’s healthcare value chain potential,” he stated.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) underpins PVAC’s mission to strengthen healthcare delivery through public-private partnerships, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to transforming the healthcare landscape.
Commitments from Foreign Partners, Dr. Kevin Massoudi, Vice President and Head of Public Sector Engagement for Siemens Healthineers in the Middle East and Africa, reiterated Siemens’ commitment to advancing diagnostic services in Nigeria.
He highlighted Nigeria’s strategic position as a leader in health innovation across Africa.
Dr. Rabah El Menshawy, Vice President of EMEA & Global Accounts at Abbott Laboratories GmbH, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visionary leadership, which he said lays the foundation for a brighter future in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
“This partnership ensures Nigerians have access to high-quality diagnostic solutions made locally,” he remarked.
Dr. El Menshawy also emphasized the partnership’s alignment with Nigeria’s goal to end HIV infections by 2030, noting its potential to promote health equity and empower citizens.
“Our collaboration aims to improve access to quality diagnostics, contributing to the health and well-being of the Nigerian people. Additionally, local production of rapid diagnostic tests will boost economic growth, create jobs, and foster capacity-building through training and knowledge transfer,” he added.
