The National Health Council (NHC) has expressed its appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, and other stakeholders for their significant contributions to advancing healthcare in Nigeria.
In a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the 65th NHC meeting held in Maiduguri on Thursday, the council thanked the Borno State Government for its support in hosting the event.
Signed by the Council Chairman and Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammadu Ali Pate, and presented by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs. Dani Kachollom, the communiqué acknowledged the cooperation of various organizers, stakeholders, development partners, and health organizations both local and international whose efforts are contributing toward achieving universal health coverage by 2030.
As part of the meeting, the council launched four key health policy documents aimed at improving healthcare delivery and advancing digital health technology to meet international standards. These include:
1. The National Policy on Health Workforce Migration (2024)
2. Nigeria Health Workforce Profile (2022)
3. The National Social and Behaviour Change Strategy for Nutrition Across the Lifecycle in Nigeria
4. The Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent, and Elderly Health (RMNCAEH+N) Strategy and Implementation Guide
The session also featured three speakers, 18 memoranda, and the participation of 36 state commissioners along with over 1,500 members. Key resolutions were adopted during technical discussions to enhance healthcare delivery nationwide, particularly in underserved rural and urban areas, furthering efforts to make healthcare accessible for all Nigerians.
Finally, the council unanimously resolved that Cross River State will host the 66th NHC meeting in Calabar, underscoring the continuity of its commitment to improving health outcomes across the country.
